Keycap models #

Keycaps are hard to source at the time of writing. Some people use caps for Kailh PG1316S switches, but I couldn't find a store that had them in stock.

Luckily, other people have already modeled 3D-printable caps, see pashutk/Cherry_MX_ULP and the linked projects.

I liked the version by marcoster and jonboh/ulp-dactyl and added three modifications:

  1. Rounded corners with 2 mm radius,
  2. spherical[1] top surface curvature and
  3. homing variant with bar at the bottom edge.

Here is the onshape document. The caps are laid out as sheets for cost-effective on-demand printing; 64 blanks and 9 homing variants.

The step files in this folder only have one cap.

Tips for FDM printing #

You can print these with an FDM printer. I used a 0.2 mm nozzle, adaptive layer height and Arachne wall generator and printed the caps face up and with automatic support. I found traditional support easier to remove than organic support.

This image shows the spherical caps in front of jonboh's cylidrical variant: spherical caps next to a cherry switch and jonboh's variant
