Mountpoint crossing is similar to following procfs symlinks - we do
not get ->d_revalidate() called for dentry we have arrived at, with
unpleasant consequences for NFS4.
Simple way to reproduce the problem in mainline:

What happens is the missing call of ->d_revalidate() after mountpoint
crossing and that's where NFS4 would issue OPEN request to server.
The fix is simple - treat mountpoint crossing the same way we deal with
following procfs-style symlinks. I.e. set LOOKUP_JUMPED...

In the old --stdio interface the annotation is done just after one
selects a symbol, while in --tui, now the default when the required libs
are installed, we annotate all symbols with samples so that when
annotation is asked we see what happened recently on that symbol.
To achieve that the --stdio variant checks if the hist_entry being
processed is the one selected by the user via the 's' hotkey. What
happens now that we share the hist_entry abstractions with 'perf report'
is that for minimizing locking contention multiple rb_trees are used,
one for collecting the samples and other to browse/show them after
resorting it by number of samples and decay them, which is done
periodically.
So the simple test in record_precise_ip doesn't work as we move
hist_entries between those rb_trees. To fix it just check that the
underlying struct symbol associated with those hist_entries is the same.

It makes sense for the stdio where we can't navigate to the other pages.
On the TUI it breaks as soon as we navigate to other pages that have,

Fix "Enable 32kHz OS timer in order to allow sleep states in idle"
warning. We are now compiling in bothe MPU timer and 32 KiHz timer,
so this warning is only valid when MPU_TIMER is set and OMAP_DM_TIMER
is not set.

Rx byte count was off; instead use the hardware's count. Tx packet
count was counting pre-TSO packets; instead count on-the-wire packets.
Report hardware dropped frame count as rx_fifo_errors.
- The count of transmitted packets reported by the forcedeth driver
reports pre-TSO (TCP Segmentation Offload) packet counts and not the
count of the number of packets sent on the wire. This change fixes
the forcedeth driver to report the correct count. Fixed the code by
copying the count stored in the NIC H/W to the value reported by the
driver.
- Count rx_drop_frame errors as rx_fifo_errors:
We see a lot of rx_drop_frame errors if we disable the rx bottom-halves
for too long. Normally, rx_fifo_errors would be counted in this case.
The rx_drop_frame error count is private to forcedeth and is not
reported by ifconfig or sysfs. The rx_fifo_errors count is currently
unused in the forcedeth driver. It is reported by ifconfig as overruns.
This change reports rx_drop_frame errors as rx_fifo_errors.

Function ndo_get_stats() updates most of the stats from hardware
registers, making the manual updates un-needed. This change removes
these manual updates. Main exception is rx_missed_errors which needs
manual update.
Another exception is rx_packets, still updated manually in this commit
to make sure this patch doesn't change behavior of driver. This will
be addressed by a future patch.

Just like the old perf top --tui and the --stdio version.
But because we have the initial menu to choose which event to show in a
session with multiple events we can see how many chunks were lost in
each of the event types, clarifying which events are being affected the
most.

This creates a new 'reason' field in a wb_writeback_work
structure, which unambiguously identifies who initiates
writeback activity. A 'wb_reason' enumeration has been
added to writeback.h, to enumerate the possible reasons.
The 'writeback_work_class' and tracepoint event class and
'writeback_queue_io' tracepoints are updated to include the
symbolic 'reason' in all trace events.
And the 'writeback_inodes_sbXXX' family of routines has had
a wb_stats parameter added to them, so callers can specify
why writeback is being started.

Recent commit "irq: Track the owner of irq descriptor" in
commit ID b6873807a7143b7 placed module.h into linux/irq.h
but we are trying to limit module.h inclusion to just C files
that really need it, due to its size and number of children
includes. This targets just reversing that include.
Add in the basic "struct module" since that is all we really need
to ensure things compile. In theory, b687380 should have added the
module.h include to the irqdesc.h header as well, but the implicit
module.h everywhere presence masked this from showing up. So give
it the "struct module" as well.
As for the C files, irqdesc.c is only using THIS_MODULE, so it
does not need module.h - give it export.h instead. The C file
irq/manage.c is now (as of b687380) using try_module_get and
module_put and so it needs module.h (which it already has).
Also convert the irq_alloc_descs variants to macros, since all
they really do is is call the __irq_alloc_descs primitive.
This avoids including export.h and no debug info is lost.

Fix up trivial conflict in drivers/net/ethernet/stmicro/stmmac/Kconfig

Instead of sending ->older_than_this to queue_io() and
move_expired_inodes(), send the entire wb_writeback_work
structure. There are other fields of a work item that are
useful in these routines and in tracepoints.

These two small inlines make calls to try_module_get() and
module_put() which would force us to keep module.h present
within yet another common include header. We can avoid this
by turning them into macros. The hci_dev_hold construct
is patterned off of raw_spin_trylock_irqsave() in spinlock.h

so were not fixed by the commits on that baseline. Since they use

When forcedeth module is unloaded, there exists a path that can lead
to mod_timer() after del_timer_sync(), causing an oops. This patch
short-circuits this unneeded path, which originates in
nv_get_ethtool_stats().

x86_64 16-way + 3 ethtool -S infinite loops + 100Mbps incoming traffic
+ rmmod/modprobe/ifconfig in a loop

We were doing parts of it in hists__collapse_resort and parts of it in
hists__output_resort, leading to a bogus total_period.
Fix it by doing just the filtering operation when collapsing because
there we know that the Zoom operations adds filters just what is in
hists->entries, not to the new batch of entries being collapsed.
And move all the nr_entries + total_period recalculation to
hists__output_resort since we will traverse all entries anyway there.
Problem introduced when developing threaded addition of new batches
of hist_entries, i.e. post v3.1.

All ->execute_task instances now need to complete the I/O explicitly,
which can either happen synchronously or asynchronously.
Note that a lot of the CDB emulations appear to return success even if
some lowlevel operations failed. Given that this is an existing issue
this patch doesn't change that fact.

This file was using the module get/put functions in two simple inline
functions. But module_get/put were only within scope because of
the implicit presence of module.h being everywhere.
Rather than add module.h to another file in include/ -- which is
exactly the thing we are trying to avoid, simply convert these
one-line functions into a define, as per what was done for the
device_schedule_callback() in commit 523ded71de0c5e669733.

Mountpoint crossing is similar to following procfs symlinks - we do
not get ->d_revalidate() called for dentry we have arrived at, with
unpleasant consequences for NFS4.
Simple way to reproduce the problem in mainline:

In the old --stdio interface the annotation is done just after one
selects a symbol, while in --tui, now the default when the required libs
are installed, we annotate all symbols with samples so that when
annotation is asked we see what happened recently on that symbol.
To achieve that the --stdio variant checks if the hist_entry being
processed is the one selected by the user via the 's' hotkey. What
happens now that we share the hist_entry abstractions with 'perf report'
is that for minimizing locking contention multiple rb_trees are used,
one for collecting the samples and other to browse/show them after
resorting it by number of samples and decay them, which is done
periodically.
So the simple test in record_precise_ip doesn't work as we move
hist_entries between those rb_trees. To fix it just check that the
underlying struct symbol associated with those hist_entries is the same.

Rx byte count was off; instead use the hardware's count. Tx packet
count was counting pre-TSO packets; instead count on-the-wire packets.
Report hardware dropped frame count as rx_fifo_errors.
- The count of transmitted packets reported by the forcedeth driver
reports pre-TSO (TCP Segmentation Offload) packet counts and not the
count of the number of packets sent on the wire. This change fixes
the forcedeth driver to report the correct count. Fixed the code by
copying the count stored in the NIC H/W to the value reported by the
driver.
- Count rx_drop_frame errors as rx_fifo_errors:
We see a lot of rx_drop_frame errors if we disable the rx bottom-halves
for too long. Normally, rx_fifo_errors would be counted in this case.
The rx_drop_frame error count is private to forcedeth and is not
reported by ifconfig or sysfs. The rx_fifo_errors count is currently
unused in the forcedeth driver. It is reported by ifconfig as overruns.
This change reports rx_drop_frame errors as rx_fifo_errors.

Function ndo_get_stats() updates most of the stats from hardware
registers, making the manual updates un-needed. This change removes
these manual updates. Main exception is rx_missed_errors which needs
manual update.
Another exception is rx_packets, still updated manually in this commit
to make sure this patch doesn't change behavior of driver. This will
be addressed by a future patch.

Just like the old perf top --tui and the --stdio version.
But because we have the initial menu to choose which event to show in a
session with multiple events we can see how many chunks were lost in
each of the event types, clarifying which events are being affected the
most.

This creates a new 'reason' field in a wb_writeback_work
structure, which unambiguously identifies who initiates
writeback activity. A 'wb_reason' enumeration has been
added to writeback.h, to enumerate the possible reasons.
The 'writeback_work_class' and tracepoint event class and
'writeback_queue_io' tracepoints are updated to include the
symbolic 'reason' in all trace events.
And the 'writeback_inodes_sbXXX' family of routines has had
a wb_stats parameter added to them, so callers can specify
why writeback is being started.

Recent commit "irq: Track the owner of irq descriptor" in
commit ID b6873807a7143b7 placed module.h into linux/irq.h
but we are trying to limit module.h inclusion to just C files
that really need it, due to its size and number of children
includes. This targets just reversing that include.
Add in the basic "struct module" since that is all we really need
to ensure things compile. In theory, b687380 should have added the
module.h include to the irqdesc.h header as well, but the implicit
module.h everywhere presence masked this from showing up. So give
it the "struct module" as well.
As for the C files, irqdesc.c is only using THIS_MODULE, so it
does not need module.h - give it export.h instead. The C file
irq/manage.c is now (as of b687380) using try_module_get and
module_put and so it needs module.h (which it already has).
Also convert the irq_alloc_descs variants to macros, since all
they really do is is call the __irq_alloc_descs primitive.
This avoids including export.h and no debug info is lost.

doing is looking for EXPORT_SYMBOL.

Fix up trivial conflict in drivers/net/ethernet/stmicro/stmmac/Kconfig
as per Michal: the STMMAC_DUAL_MAC config variable is still unused and

Instead of sending ->older_than_this to queue_io() and
move_expired_inodes(), send the entire wb_writeback_work
structure. There are other fields of a work item that are
useful in these routines and in tracepoints.

These two small inlines make calls to try_module_get() and
module_put() which would force us to keep module.h present
within yet another common include header. We can avoid this
by turning them into macros. The hci_dev_hold construct
is patterned off of raw_spin_trylock_irqsave() in spinlock.h

These files didn't exist at the time of the module.h split, and
so were not fixed by the commits on that baseline. Since they use
the EXPORT_SYMBOL and/or THIS_MODULE macros, they will need the
new export.h file included that provides them.

When forcedeth module is unloaded, there exists a path that can lead
to mod_timer() after del_timer_sync(), causing an oops. This patch
short-circuits this unneeded path, which originates in
nv_get_ethtool_stats().
Tested:
x86_64 16-way + 3 ethtool -S infinite loops + 100Mbps incoming traffic
+ rmmod/modprobe/ifconfig in a loop

We were doing parts of it in hists__collapse_resort and parts of it in
hists__output_resort, leading to a bogus total_period.
Fix it by doing just the filtering operation when collapsing because
there we know that the Zoom operations adds filters just what is in
hists->entries, not to the new batch of entries being collapsed.
And move all the nr_entries + total_period recalculation to
hists__output_resort since we will traverse all entries anyway there.
Problem introduced when developing threaded addition of new batches
of hist_entries, i.e. post v3.1.

All ->execute_task instances now need to complete the I/O explicitly,
which can either happen synchronously or asynchronously.
Note that a lot of the CDB emulations appear to return success even if
some lowlevel operations failed. Given that this is an existing issue
this patch doesn't change that fact.

This file was using the module get/put functions in two simple inline
functions. But module_get/put were only within scope because of
the implicit presence of module.h being everywhere.
Rather than add module.h to another file in include/ -- which is
exactly the thing we are trying to avoid, simply convert these
one-line functions into a define, as per what was done for the
device_schedule_callback() in commit 523ded71de0c5e669733.

kbuild: introduce ccflags-y, asflags-y and ldflags-y
Moreover, these flags (at least EXTRA_CFLAGS) have been documented for command
line use. By default, gmake(1) do not override command line setting, so this is
likely to result in build failure or unexpected behavior.
Warn about their introduction in Makefile or Kbuild files.

The implicit presence of module.h everywhere meant that this header
also was getting moduleparam.h which defines struct kernel_param.
Since it only needs to know that kernel_param is a struct, call that
out instead of adding an include of moduleparam.h -- to get rid of this:
