Either refactor or add it as an additional option.
Make it he truly black to be easier on OLED displays, as the pixels would just turn off and safe battery (or just general power).
And it's subjectively better looking.

I would love to see it as an option, but not necessarily as the default. Very high contrast can be harsh for reading text, and completely black themes can actually end up consuming more battery on LCD screens, because people will raise their brightness.
I don't know if it's that big of a deal though, and I also [subjectively] think black themes can look really nice on OLED & MiniLED displays, and VR headsets (although I understand that's a bit of a unique use case).
